Planning Your Tour

Choosing the courses you wish to play could possibly be the most difficult decision that the tour members will make. The historic golf courses of Scotland are difficult to resist but time may be against you playing them all on this tour. Here are five basic questions to consider:

Turnberry Ailsa Championship, 9th tee.

1. Is the Old Course at St. Andrews a must play?

If this so Caddie Golf Tours can assist in getting secured Old Course tee times through our contacts with the Old Course Experience, who are the exclusive supplier of those times that are supplied from the St. Andrews Links Trust. The reduced fees for tee times are then passed to our clients.

Alternatively the Old Course Ballot system for tee times can be used. Caddie Golf Tours are happy to discuss and advise you on the best way to secure those times using the Ballot.

2. When do you contact Caddie Golf Tours?

Please feel free to contact Caddie Golf Tours whenever you want. There is an argument to plan in advance which is well documented but I'm happy to advise you about your tour when you require it.

Old Course Starters Hut and 1st tee.

3. How long is the tour to last: a long weekend, one week, two weeks?

A question that the group as a whole must answer...work & family are usually the over riding factors. The majority of golf tours will last seven days and include six or seven rounds of golf which is usually enough considering we would normally play once a week at home. I would reccommend staying in a maximum of two locations as there is no need to be constantly travelling on a one week tour.

4. Accommodation: Bed & Breakfast, House, Lodge or a Hotel with 3*,4* or 5* rating?

We have contracts and contacts with many excellent hotels, lodges and B&B's across Scotland, including the Old Course Hotel in St. Andrews and the Marine Hotel in Troon. The savings negotiated from these companies are passed directly to our clients. Our extensive knowledge of accommodation around Scotland is available for you to tap into.

5. Self drive or guided with personalised driver?

Caddie Golf Tours have a good relationship and contract with Scotland's best vehicle hire company, Arnold Clarke, that supplies excellent rates for self drive vehicles which we pass onto our clients. Alternatively a driver and coach can be organised for your tour if they would prefer the 'no hassle' transport version.

Dunvegan Bar, 140 yards from the Old Course and the post round beer.

Golf and fun are the base reasons for your trip and Caddie Golf Tours wish to assist you by ensuring you get to play the golf courses in Scotland you want, with flexible tee times, where possible but also get the opportunity to meet some of the locals in the flesh, rather than through the windscreen of a vehicle.

Your tour can comprise playing at many of Scotland's great golf courses, but will also allow time for camraderie with fellow players at the 19th hole. Please contact Caddie Golf Tours for more information.
