Dunhill Links Challenge 2006

The Dunhill Links Challenge for 2006 was held over the great links golf courses of the Old Course, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns. The Irishman Padraig Harington deservedly won for the second time in four years.

I had some interesting company on the final day with my amateur player Mr. Grant Andrews partnering the Frenchman Gregory Harvet and playing in the same group as the flamboyant Englishman Ian Poulter.

John & Mr. Andrews discuss options for 2nd shot to 17th Road Hole green.

Always a fantastic golf hole the 17th at St. Andrews will never disappoint for excitement & drama. Mr. Andrews hit a good solid drive, played his second short of the green & chipped up leaving a 7 foot putt for par. Ian Poulter played a super drive though landed a wee bit on the left side of the fairway making a difficult approach to the pin. A glorious iron with a gentle draw around the Road Hole Bunker lands within 5 feet! Simple really.

John watches Ian Poulter play approach to 17th Road Hole green. He was roughly 140 yards from front edge of the green with flag behind the Road Hole Bunker.

Mr. Andrews leaves 17th green. Notice the steep bank he walks down...the road starts at the base and there is no relief if you land on it!

Preparing to putt for par. Ian Poulter & Gregory Harvet look on as does the man in black ... Mr. Dennis Hopper.

17th green & the Caddies can do no more but look on or look away!
